Types of Demographic Based Sites

There are three types of attributes pertaining to the student records used for Demographics Based Sites. These attributes cannot be combined.

This page will provide descriptions of each attribute and some examples of how they can be used.

Student Attributes

The student attributes include admission data about students such as their attending school, current major, and admission type. Student attributes offers limited fields and is only recommended to be used if the admission type is needed.

Available Fields:

Admitted Year – This is the last year for which the student has been admitted to Rutgers.

Admitted Term – This is the last term for which the student has been admitted to Rutgers.

Attending School – This is academic unit (school) associated with the student’s last term of attendance.

Student’s Major – A code indicating the curriculum (major) for which the student was registered during his/her last term of attendance.

Admission Type – A code indicating the student’s last category of admission. (Examples: Non-matric, Freshman, Transfer)

Examples Sites:

  1. First year students in a particular major.
  2. All students who were admitted into a school.
  3. Students who were admitted into Rutgers in a specific year.

Course Attributes

Course attributes are based on student registrations in the academic term. Only active students on the REGIS roster will be included in the course attributes sites. These rosters can be configured by School, Subject, Course, and Supplement Codes.

Available Fields:

Course Year – The year in which this course is offered.

Course Term – The term in which this course is offered.

School Code – A school code indicating the unit offering the course.

Subject Code – A subject code indicating the subject area in which the course if offered.

Course Code – The number of this specific course. Course numbers are not unique. This code needs to be used with the Subject Code to specify a unique course.

Supplemental Code – A code which, if it contains a value, indicates that this is a specific supplemental course.

Examples Sites:

  1. “All Sections” site for an offered course. Combining rosters of every offered section into 1 site.
  2. Students taking a courses for a specific school or program.
  3. A duplicate roster of an active section running in a term.

Term Attributes

Term attribute sites include information about a student and their attendance status at the university. This type of site can be configured for a specific timeframe or can update dynamically up to date. If an “active roster” is requested, the Canvas Admins may reach out to review the requirements.

Available Fields:

Year – The year to which this information applies.

Term – The term to which this information applies.

Attending School – This is academic unit (school) associated with the student’s last term of attendance.

RU Here Indicator – Indicator confirming a student’s intention to enroll for the term. Either Yes or No for each term.

Student’s Major – A code indicating the curriculum (major) for which the student was registered during his/her last term of attendance.

Student’s Minor – A code indicating the curriculum (minor) for which the student was registered during his/her last term of attendance.

Student Instruction Type – A code indicating the student’s method of instruction. Codes used to determine whether a student is fully online or in person.

Examples Sites:

  1. All students of a particular Major or Minor.
  2. Roster of students who are fully online (remote) in a program
  3. Active students for a school, major, or campus.
