Linkedin Learning – Adding a Linkedin Learning Course or Video as a Canvas Assignment


LinkedIn Learning is available as an integration in Rutgers Canvas. Instructors may assign LinkedIn Learning courses or videos for students. Instructors may already have a learner account available from Rutgers Office of Information Technology LinkedIn Learning website. The following directions are divided into two parts that describe the process for creating an assignment for LinkedIn Learning, and grading your Canvas Assignment.

Canvas Assignment Setup

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course.
  2. In your Canvas course, click Assignments in the course navigation. Add a new assignment. You may also add an assignment type to an existing Module.
  3. Edit your assignment settings to include points and due dates. 
  4. For Submission Type, choose External Tool from the dropdown menu and click on the Find button.

  5. In the Configure External Tool window, select Linkedin Learning.

  6. Check the box to Load in a new tab.
  7. Click Select.
  8. In the Link Resource from External Tool window, search for a topic (A), use filters (B) to refine the type of search results that are displayed. Select the Linkedin Learning content by clicking Add (C). Confirm your selection (D). It may be beneficial to search for Linkedin Learning content in another tab (E).



  9. Click Save or Save and Publish. The assignment title and details are replaced with the title and description of the LinkedIn Learning content.

    Note: If you select a video as part of a LinkedIn Learning course, LinkedIn Learning will continue to the next video segment in the course.

Grading Your Linkedin Learning Assignment

Linkedin Learning will automatically enter the points in your gradebook when your student has completed the Linkedin Learning content that you have assigned. Students must watch the content completely. No partial scores are assigned based on progression.
