Rutgers Sandbox Request is an application that allows current course instructors to request a sandbox course site. These sites are typically used for:
- Developing content.
- Practicing using the system and its features.
- Testing and debugging tools.
Requirements for using the Rutgers Sandbox Request tool:
- The person requesting a sandbox must be enrolled in an existing Canvas course site as a teacher, TA, Facilitator, Course Support, or another editing role.
- The user must log in with a Rutgers NetID and have a Faculty or Staff role at the university.
- Requests and sandbox use must comply with the Canvas Use Guidelines.
If you do not meet these requirements, please work with your school-based Canvas admin to request a sandbox.

- Log in to Rutgers Canvas.
- Click Courses in the global navigation.
- Click All Courses in the slide-out tray.
- After the page has completely loaded, click Request Sandbox. A new tab will open.
- Complete the form to include a name for the sandbox, a Rutgers unit that the sandbox is associated with, and the purpose of the sandbox.
- Click Submit.
- For additional sandbox course sites, click Go to Sandbox Request to complete the form again. For multiple sandbox course sites, you may also email Rutgers Canvas Help. When you return to the Sandbox Request form, you will see your previous requests.
Sandbox requests made during business hours should be created on the same day, but may take 24-48 hours to process. Please review your Canvas notifications to ensure your Administrative Notifications are enabled. You will see a course invitation on your Canvas dashboard if a Canvas admin approves your request.

- (Optional) To add an additional instructor, type their Rutgers NetID. Only one netid can be entered.
- To include your Canvas admin account, check the box to add your Rutgers NetID-adm to the course site.
- Click Submit.
- For additional sandbox course sites, click Go to Sandbox Request to complete the form again. For multiple sandbox course sites, you may also email Rutgers Canvas Help. When you return to the Sandbox Request form, you will see your previous requests.
