Developed by Rutgers Camden IT, Rutgers Shout-Out provides students with a means to share the pronunciation of their name. Students within Canvas may share an audio clip or phonetic spelling of their name.
Rutgers Shout-Out is available for course editors and instructors through Rutgers Canvas by managing your course navigation.

- Log into Rutgers Canvas.
- Navigate to your Canvas course.
- In the course navigation menu, click Rutgers Shout-Out.
- Click Record to make a short audio recording of your name. You may have to allow the browser to have access to your microphone.
- Type the phonetic spelling of your name in the appropriate box.
- Select the authorize check box to share with instructor
- Click the Save button.

- Access your Canvas course from the course dashboard or the Courses menu.
- Click Rutgers Shout-Out in your course navigation.If it is not listed, enable it by managing the course navigation links in course Settings.
- The instructor view for Rutgers Shout-Out includes enrolled students, indicated pronouns (if updated in their Canvas Account Profile), phonetic spelling of their name, and an audio recording. Click the play button to hear a student’s name. This view is not available to students enrolled in your course.
- To make an audio recording of your name:
- Click Show Student View.
- Click Record to record your name.
- After recording your name. click Stop.
- Click the play button to listen to your recording.
- Click the 3 dots.
- Click download.
- Share the recording in your Syllabus or About your instructor page.
