ASL/CART Interpreter Role in Canvas

Rutgers Access and Disability Resources (RADR) is an institution wide program at Rutgers that works with the Offices of Disability Services (ODS). Please contact the RADR Virtual Support Desk if you have any questions about ASL/CART user in your Canvas course.

 

The ASL/CART Interpreter role in Canvas is used to identify individuals providing reasonable accommodations and services for students with disabilities. These users will provide services including:

American Sign Language (ASL)

  • ASL Interpretation is the most prominent type of interpreting used today. ASL Interpreters provide cultural and linguistic expertise in their interpretations between American Sign Language ASL and English.

Communication Access Real-time Transcription (CART)

  • CART refers to the real time translation of spoken word into English text by a trained CART specialist. Utilizing humans, not robots, can allow CART specialists to be certified to type up to 260 words per minute with 98% accuracy and above. Real-time text translations may be displayed on a user’s computer, projected onto a screen, combined with a video presentation captions, or other display systems.

 

ASL/CART Interpreter Permissions

Permissions are limited. Unauthorized warnings will appear if they click to a page that they do not have permission to access.

Grades ✔️
Can view grades including assignment comments for the student(s) they are observing. They can also filter the Grades view by grading period, filter by courses they are enrolled in, view assignment scores and due dates, and print grades.
