As a new semester approaches, many instructors are revisiting how they design assessments to better evaluate student learning and support academic integrity. For some, that means incorporating handwritten exams, problem sets, or in-class work. While paper-based assessments can provide valuable insight into student understanding, they often come with a familiar concern: grading time.
This session is designed for faculty who are considering, or already using, handwritten or in-person assessments and want a practical way to grade them efficiently at scale. Gradescope enables digital grading of handwritten work, combining the pedagogical benefits of paper with the speed, consistency, and analytics of online grading tools.
During this interactive session, a member of the Gradescope team will lead a practical discussion on assessment design, handwritten work, and digital grading workflows. Participants will be invited to share their questions, challenges, and goals, with time dedicated to exploring how Gradescope can help support efficient, consistent grading without adding administrative burden.
This session will cover the following:
- Scalable Grading: Use Answer Grouping and Flexible Rubrics to grade handwritten work quickly and consistently.
- Team Efficiency: Learn strategies for collaborative grading with TAs using shared, real-time rubrics.
- Actionable Analytics: Discover what grading data reveals about common student misconceptions.
- Canvas Integration: See how Gradescope fits into your existing Rutgers workflow for seamless scanning and feedback.
