About the DesignPlus Sidebar
The DesignPlus Sidebar has been upgraded. Rutgers Canvas has planned a phased release of the DesignPlus Sidebar to give users time to attend training and gain experience. The plan is as follows:
- August 18, 2023: Sidebar available for general use. The new sidebar will be enabled in the off state. The legacy sidebar will be what you see when you launch but EACH USER may toggle to the new sidebar. Legacy content will remain editable with the legacy sidebar and may be upgraded to be edited by the new sidebar. Upgraded content may not be edited by the legacy sidebar. With this upgrade, individual user settings has been reset and the basic (skill-level) sidebar navigation is displayed.
- May 13, 2024: The default sidebar will be the NEW DesignPlus sidebar. Each user may toggle back to the legacy side bar. Legacy content will remain editable with the legacy sidebar and may be upgraded to be edited by the new sidebar. Upgraded content may not be edited by the legacy sidebar. New content created with the new sidebar is only editable by the new sidebar.
- December 31, 2024: The legacy sidebar is sunset, as announced by Cidilabs. Users will no longer be able to toggle to use the deprecated sidebar. Existing legacy content will still function normally and retain its styling. However, if that content is copied to build new content, users will need to upgrade the legacy content before the new Sidebar can be used to edit it.
The new DesignPLUS Sidebar is easier to use out of the box (especially for new and basic users), more intuitive to customize, and more powerful than ever. For power users who want a lot of granular control, tools like the Style Editor allow them to create custom styles for sharing and reuse later.
