Rutgers.eduRutgers Canvas is pleased to introduce a new customizable student dashboard, designed to make it easier for learners to see important coursework, grades, feedback, and instructor information in one place. The new learner dashboard is currently available only to users with a student role in Canvas. Users with both student and non-student roles do not see this feature. Content from third-party tools without a corresponding Canvas Assignment and due dates will not appear in the customized dashboard.
The redesign aims to transform the dashboard from a simple navigation page into a student-focused command center that helps learners:
- Find urgent tasks quickly.
- Stay on top of deadlines.
- Monitor academic performance.
- Access instructor support more easily.
Features
- Coursework Widget: The new Coursework Widget consolidates assignments from all courses into a single view. Students can filter coursework or by submission status (such as Missing). This helps students prioritize outstanding work with fewer clicks.
- Grades & Feedback Widgets: The dashboard prominently displays overall course grades, recent grades, and instructor feedback. The goal is to make academic progress and feedback more visible and actionable.
- Dashboard Personalization: Students can enter a Customization Mode to add or remove widgets, rearrange components, and move frequently used tools to the top. This allows each student to build a workspace that fits their learning style.
- People Widget: A dedicated widget provides quick access to instructor information, making it easier for students to identify and contact their teachers.
Transitioning Experience
To minimize disruption, Canvas allows students to switch between the new and classic dashboards. Refer to How Do I Customize my Dashboard as a Student?
