Feature Release: Top Hat Upgrade

Rutgers University proudly announces the upgrade of Top Hat LTI 1.1 to Top Hat LTI 1.3. If you do not have Top Hat connected to your course, follow steps on how to Connect a Canvas course to Top Hat. Here are the new features with Top Hat LTI 1.3:

Feature Description Functionality
Course Launch Enables users to navigate to the Top Hat course
  • Provides a link to a Top Hat course from the course navigation menu.
Sync Rosters Enables the LMS user to sync their course roster to Top Hat
  • Send email invite from Top Hat.
  • Automatic roster sync.
Assignment Sync Enables the user to link from an LMS assignment to a Top Hat assignment
  • Create an assignment in Canvas with a link to the corresponding Top Hat assignment
Grade Sync Enable the user to sync grades from Top Hat to Canvas
  • On-demand sync one aggregate course grade from Top Hat to Canvas.
  • On-demand sync all top-level folder grades from Top Hat to Canvas.
  • On-demand sync specified folder grades from Top Hat to Canvas.
  • Automatically sync grades from Top Hat to LMS.
  • On-demand sync any Top Hat gradeable item to Canvas.
Section Support Support students switching sections within Canvas
  • Pair multiple sections Canvas sections to Top Hat sections at one time.
  • Automatically move a student from one Top Hat section roster to another.
  • Sync grades from Top Hat multi-section course to a Canvas course.

Note: Do not add “Top Hat (Deprecated)” to your course. Top Hat LTI 1.1 will be removed on December 23 , 2022.
