Login Changes Coming to Rutgers Canvas on December 10, 2025

Beginning Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the login experience for Rutgers Canvas will undergo a minor update for students, faculty, and staff who log into Rutgers Canvas with a NetID and password. Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, is implementing enhancements to the underlying infrastructure to enhance the security, reliability, and performance of the login process.

Please note that access to Rutgers Canvas will remain uninterrupted, and your login credentials—including NetID and password—will not change.

What is the new process?

Beginning Wednesday, December 10, 2025, login traffic will be migrated incrementally to the new login experience. Your session may not initially be directed to this new experience.

  1. When you navigate to https://canvas.rutgers.edu/ and click the Rutgers NetID option, you will briefly see a Canvas/Rutgers page displaying the message “Redirecting.”Image with Rutgers and Canvas logo. Loading indicator stating "redirecting."
  2. You will automatically be directed to the Rutgers NetID login screen, where you log in with your NetID username and password. You may also be prompted to verify your identity with Duo if you haven’t logged in to the multi-factor authentication app recently.
  3. A Rutgers Canvas screen will display “Checking your session…”.Image with Rutgers and Canvas logo. Loading indicator stating "checking your session."
  4. Your Canvas dashboard will display.

What do I need to do?

There are no additional steps required. This update modifies backend processes and should be seamless to you with only visual changes. Continue to log in using your NetID and password, as you do now.

  • Your NetID and password remain unchanged.
  • The Canvas link and login process remain the same.
  • Duo multi-factor authentication will continue to function as usual.
