Issues Editing Existing Powtoon Content in Rutgers Kaltura

Users are unable to edit previously created Powtoons through Rutgers Canvas.

What is happening?

When a user attempts to access a previously created Powtoon through the Powtoon Editor in Rutgers Mediaspace or through the Kaltura integration in Canvas, the user receives a “Whoops, we are a little lost” or “Access Denied” message, respectively. As a result the user is unable to edit the Powtoon in the Powtoon Studio.  The Powtoon export remains in in the user’s My Media.

What are we doing about it?

In the past, updates to Kaltura have caused the Powtoon integration or features to break. We believe that new Powtoon user accounts are created when an existing user crosses from Kaltura to Powtoon. Rutgers Kaltura admins have opened support tickets with Kaltura and Powtoon. Unfortunately our ticket has a low priority since we have a limited number of examples to provide to Kaltura Support.

What happens next?

We will continue to advocate for our users. If you are a Powtoon user or have an existing Powtoon export in your My Media, please attempt to edit the Powtoon template. If you receive an error, please provide the name of the Kaltura entry with the share link and email it to help@canvas.rutges.edu.  We will add your example to our support ticket.
