On Monday, August 19, Rutgers will be transitioning from Lynda.com to an upgraded platform, LinkedIn Learning.
LinkedIn Learning will provide the same access to valuable instructional videos through an improved, personalized experience powered by LinkedIn.
What does this mean?
LinkedIn now owns Lynda.com and on Monday, August 19, Lynda.com will be upgraded to LinkedIn Learning. Everyone who currently has a Lynda.com account with Rutgers will be transitioned to LinkedIn Learning. The transition will take about 18-24 hours to complete. The platform will be unavailable during this period, and your Lynda.com account information will be migrated to LinkedIn Learning.
How will this affect Rutgers Canvas?
If your Canvas course includes links to Lynda.com, then the content will not be available during the downtime. Links to Lynda.com may include:
- URLs to an external site
- Assignments using an Lynda as an external tool to Lynda courses or Lynda Playlists
- External Tool links in Modules to Lynda courses or Lynda Playlists
After the scheduled downtime, the Lynda.com links in your Canvas course will continue to work until December 31, 2019. After that time, the links will not longer redirect users to the corresponding content on Linkedin Learning. Instructors are encouraged to update course content prior to January 1, 2019.
What will happen after the transition?
All users will have their Lynda.com information migrated to LinkedIn Learning on August 19. Per the new Rutgers licensing agreement, access to LinkedIn Learning will only be available to active Rutgers faculty, staff, and students. Beginning on October 15, if you do not have an active affiliation with Rutgers as faculty, staff, or student, you will no longer have access to LinkedIn Learning.
There will be an opportunity for the users without an active affiliation of faculty, staff, or student to preserve their account information before October 15. Additional information on this process will be shared once the transition is complete.
